Discover More About The Subaru Liberty

Integral to every Subaru is freedom. The freedom that comes from knowing the finest engineers in the world have designed, debated and then perfected every inch of your Subaru.

The result is a reassuring confidence that is evident in the performance, safety and retained value of every Subaru. The sixth generation, all-new 2015 Liberty sedan shares the unique DNA sequence that only Subaru can re-create. It’s what makes every Subaru unique, and yet, the same. Superbly engineered, technically sophisticated and dynamically designed to deliver a performance that is All 4 the Driver™. Available in 2.5-litre four cylinder or 3.6-litre six cylinder petrol engines.

Liberty is a term often used, yet rarely understood. Ask Subaru’s engineers the meaning of Liberty and be prepared for a long and passionate answer. Alternatively, get behind the wheel and experience it for yourself.

The allure of the Liberty lies in its ability to transcend conventional thinking. Anchored by the pure power of Subaru’s horizontally-opposed Boxer engine, the Liberty celebrates success and unveils cutting edge innovation including our EyeSight® driver assist system on all variants. Executed with flair and distinctive new styling, the Liberty has evolved over successive models to become a sedan without rival. Lively, responsive and boasting an array of Subaru technologies that others will envy.

Engineers have pored over every inch to deconstruct and reconstruct the soul of this motoring icon. Gaining a fresh momentum, the Liberty’s surefooted design boasts a bold, sculptured body, dynamic side character lines and sweeping curves. Distinctive styling extends to a larger electric sunroof1, Subaru’s classic hexagonal grille with chrome surround and hawk-eye headlights that integrate with the sleek bonnet lines.

The stronger and more powerful design also boasts new advanced aerodynamic credentials. The sleek Liberty silhouette is enhanced by a lower rear roof line, enlarged boot lip, smoother front and rear bumpers and 18-inch alloy wheels which unite to deliver an overall improved aerodynamic performance.

Upfront the contemporary cabin features greater visibility and a clever use of space, coupled with premium soft-touch interior trim and a sporty height adjustable driver’s seat. An improved front and rear seat shape and a larger headrest design have both been created for improved ergonomics, comfort and safety. Increased interior space delivers more shoulder, elbow, waist, head and rear legroom, plus higher rear seats provide better visibility.

The quiet cabin atmosphere is maintained by automatic dual zone climate control air-conditioning, which delivers optimum performance via a single switch. The polished dashboard design, silver highlights, stylish seat stitching and front and rear cup holders complete the sophisticated aesthetic.

Push a button and Liberty’s split fold rear seats unlock and fold down to allow full use of the larger overall cargo space. The wide rear cabin combines with the generous boot capacity, which has been boosted by 17-litres.

Step up to the Liberty 2.5i Premium or Liberty 3.6R model and enjoy leather seats1, a large electric sunroof and an eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support.

The Liberty 2.5i has a large centre display with a touch LCD screen featuring audio, smart phone, driving and vehicle information using easy-to-understand graphics. Access to Bluetooth®1 is standard including a premium audio system with a range of simple touch and voice commands. In addition to this the Liberty 2.5i Premium model offers a new level of on-board infotainment with the LCD touch screen displaying satellite navigation and Pandora® compatibility, while the Liberty 3.6R comes alive with a harman kardon® 12-speaker sound system including subwoofer and custom acoustics.

A coloured Multi Information Display screen is strategically placed in the centre of the dual gauge instrument cluster displaying a range of colour-coded functions. The leather wrapped, three-spoke steering wheel evokes a sense of true control and lets the driver directly interact with the vehicle’s satellite navigation2, audio, Bluetooth®1, SI-DRIVE and adaptive cruise control.

The heart and soul of the Liberty is Subaru’s unsurpassed horizontally-opposed Boxer engine which is designed to sit lower and flatter in the engine bay than traditional engines. Due to this unique configuration the engine delivers less noise and vibration to the cabin, while the lowered centre of gravity improves stability, cornering and traction with the road. Coupled with the Boxer engine is Subaru’s iconic Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive which simultaneously drives power to all four wheels for superior grip and traction. Also due to its low height, the engine is driven downwards and under the floor of the cabin in the event of a severe frontal collision to reduce the risk of injury to occupants. Liberty offers a choice of lively and responsive petrol engines.

> Liberty’s 2.5-litre four cylinder, horizontally-opposed naturally aspirated Boxer engine which has been calibrated to deliver 129kW at 5800rpm and increased mid to low range torque of 235Nm at 4000rpm.

> The 3.6-litre six cylinder engine has been mated to Subaru’s Lineartronic™ Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) for the first time, with an impressive 191kW at 6000rpm and 350Nm torque at 4400rpm. The CVT has been optimised to couple seamlessly with the 3.6-litre engine for responsive acceleration and improved drivability.

Meanwhile the Automatic Stop-Start on vehicles fitted with the 2.5-litre engine coupled with the Lineartronic™ CVT and a lighter body weight deliver impressive new environmental credentials. As a result Liberty can boast exceptional fuel economy, achieving 7.3-litre/100km for the 2.5-litre engine and 9.9-litre/100km for the 3.6-litre engine1.

Liberty’s nimble performance is further enhanced by Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) on all model variants, which offers a selection of driving modes. Choose from Intelligent (I) mode for everyday driving or Sport (S) mode for enhanced acceleration and all-round sporty performance. The Liberty 3.6R sees the addition of Sport Sharp (S#) mode for a truly thrilling drive.

They say that to be forewarned, is to be forearmed. That’s the philosophy behind the EyeSight® driver assist system offering a superior level of reassurance, with both field-of-vision and distance improved around 40 per cent1.

EyeSight® is a second pair of eyes that monitor the road ahead and recognise potentially dangerous driving situations. Using threedimensional images captured by cameras mounted at the top of the windscreen, EyeSight® provides audible and visual warnings to prompt the driver to take action. EyeSight® will also apply automatic braking intervention, when necessary, to help avoid or reduce the severity of a detected frontal collision.

New features include enhanced stereo camera performance and images at all speeds and better performance in poor weather conditions1. Pre-Collision Braking provides automatic braking to help avoid or reduce the severity of detected frontal accident impacts. Should the driver be distracted, or just not register the risk of a collision, braking will be automatically applied when a potential frontal collision is recognised by EyeSight®.

Pre-Collision Brake Assist recognises a potential frontal impact, alerts the driver and assists the driver by applying full braking force in a detected emergency-braking situation.

Pre-Collision Throttle Management reduces available acceleration when the system detects objects in front of the vehicle, which it is likely to impact. Engine output is restricted to reduce the possible impact force and frontal impact damage, and to help minimise injury should the driver mistakenly accelerate.

Adaptive Cruise Control maintains the speed set by the driver, but also regulates the vehicle’s speed in order to maintain a set distance from the car in front. The driver can select from different distances and the EyeSight® system will automatically regulate the vehicle’s speed in line with the traffic flow.

Lane Sway and Departure Warning monitors the vehicle’s position within the road lane markings and sounds a warning when it recognises the potential for the vehicle to unintentionally move out of its lane, or when swaying within the lane is recognised.

Colour Recognition EyeSight® can now see and interpret red brake lights to monitor a vehicle ahead and trigger a driver alert if required.
