Driving Mode

When the going gets tough, engage Forester’s new X-Mode (standard on all LineartronicTM CVT models) and the vehicle takes control to regulate the speed on steep slopes for better grip and traction in slippery conditions. The system interfaces with the engine management computer to control throttle opening speed to suit the conditions. On slippery surfaces the throttle opening is delayed to provide a smooth torque delivery thereby minimising wheel spin. Conversely under load on rough roads the throttle opens quickly to improve drivability. Five driving instructors test AWD capabilities of the most popular mid-size SUVs, and Forester came out on top! Thanks to the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and all new X-Mode.

Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE):

Also designed to let you select your driving mode of choice is Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-Drive), which available on Forester 2.0i-L, Forester 2.5i-L, Forester 2.5i-S, Forester 2.0XT and Forester 2.0XT Premium. SI-DRIVE regulates key engine functions to offer up to three distinctive driving modes in the one car:

For Forester 2.0i-L, Forester 2.5i-L and Forester 2.5i-S:

1.Intelligent (I) mode for everyday driving conditions
2.Sport (S) for enhanced acceleration

For Forester 2.0XT and Forester 2.0XT Premium:

1.Intelligent (I) mode for everyday driving conditions
2.Sport (S) for enhanced acceleration
3.SportSharp (S#) for a exhilarating drive

LineartronicTM Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)

Forester 2.5i

The Lineartronic™ CVT featured in the Forester 2.5i is lightweight and compact, and has been optimized to suit the new Forester engine and chassis. It delivers seamless gear changes instantaneously and optimises the gear ratios to the driving conditions, which means that it is extremely responsive whilst driving on winding roads and hills, with strong pulling power. It is also equipped with a significantly wider gear ratio coverage range to improve acceleration and fuel efficiency. To improve engine braking this CVT incorporates “L mode”. “L mode” is a feature where in slow driving conditions you can select a lower ratio package compared to “D” range.

Forester 2.5i-L and Forester 2.5i-S

Lineartronic™ CVT with six-speed manual mode fitted to the Forester 2.5i-L and Forester 2.5i-S provides a further degree of driver control in much the same way that a six speed manual transmission, only without the need to operate the clutch. Shifting with the paddles on the steering column provides for more rapid gear changes than a conventional manual transmission without even moving your hands from the steering wheel. Or, you can let the Lineartronic™ CVT do all the work and leave it automatic mode.

Forester 2.0XT and Forester 2.0XT Premium

The Forester 2.0XT and Forester 2.0XT Premium  feature one further enhancement to the Lineartronic™ CVT for a more sports driving style. When SI-DRIVE sports sharp (S#) mode is engaged, the transmission operates with an eight step shift pattern similar to a conventional automatic transmission to provide a crisper sports driving performance. Manual mode using the paddle shifts on the steering column also reflects the eight gear ratio steps with rapid shifting to provide a similar effect to an eight-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) transmission with full engine braking for a true sports driving style.

6-speed Manual Transmission

The Forester 2.0i, Forester 2.0i-L, Forester 2.0D, Forester 2.0D-L and Forester 2.0D-S  are only available with a six speed manual transmission. The extended gear ratio range of the six-speed transmission enhances drivability over a wide range of driving from city to highway.

Ring-shaped Passenger Safety Cell

The ring-shaped passenger cell is made from high tensile strength steel, which directs impact energy around the passenger compartment, not through it. The body frame has also been designed to minimize the effect of rear end collisions by evenly distributing the impact energy left and right through diagonal members to help reduce cabin distortion.

Whiplash Reduction Seats

The front seats feature a whiplash reducing design. This design provides good support for the occupants’ head, neck and torso and provides a mechanism that allows controlled rearward movement in the event of a rear end collision. This allows the accident energy to be absorbed, helping to reduce the severity of whiplash injuries.

Seven SRS airbags2 including dual front, dual front side, curtain and a driver’s knee airbag are standard for all Forester models.

Boxer Engine

The Boxer engine sits low in the engine bay to help protect occupants by sliding below the cabin – not into it - in the event of a severe frontal collision.

Vehicle Dynamics Control

Subaru’s electronic driver assist system, called Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), features a range of stability and braking technologies which step in to help maintain safety in extreme situations. By automatically acting on information transmitted from a sophisticated array of sensors, the factors influencing the Foresters stability are constantly monitored to help the driver stay in control. Subaru Vehicle Dynamics Control incorporates:

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Traction Control System (TCS)
  • TCS Limited Slip Device (LSD)
  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
  • Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
  • Brake Assist

Rear View Reverse Camera

Every Forester model now features a rear view reverse camera as standard equipment. The reversing camera improves visibility when reversing helping to reduce and avoid the risk of accidents.

Single CD Player

The audio system on Forester 2.0i/2.5i, Forester 2.0i-L/2.5i-L, Forester 2.0XT, Forester 2.0D and Forester 2.0D-L is a high grade single CD player and AM/FM radio unit that is MP3/WMA compatible. Featuring an auxiliary jack and USB connection means you can always listen to your favourite playlist. It’s also Bluetooth®1 enabled with voice recognition. Door speakers and tweeter position ensure rich sound all through the cabin.

Built-in Satellite Navigation System

The Forester 2.5i-S, Forester 2.0XT and Forester 2.0D-S feature a built-in satellite navigation system with a high definition 6.1inch monitor, a single CD player that’s MP3/WMA/DiVX and iPod® compatible, AM/FM radio and pumps out your soundtrack of choice through six speakers. It also features Bluetooth®1 with voice recognition, auxiliary jack and USB connection, plus a rear view reverse camera. The voice recognition commands minimise driver distraction for safer operation for initiating phone calls from the address book, music album or artist search and play, and point of interest navigation commands.

Premium Audio

Forester 2.0XT Premium features a premium entertainment system with eight harman kardon®3 speakers and amplifier fitted to specially engineered body trim to reduce vibrations and deliver a rich bass sound.Low range front door oval shaped 180cm woofers with a frequency band range of 20Hz to 1kHz and a maximum input of 72W deliver superior dynamic base tones. Mid to high range speakers are installed in the instrument panel and the upper part of the rear doors. A frequency range of 175Hz to 20kHz with a maximum input of 50W delivers vocals that are clear and crisp. Mid to low range 40Hz to 6.3kHz 50W speakers focus on sound to the rear seat which when combined with the mid to high range front speakers provide a broad range of sound for a well-balanced music experience.

Information Displays

The Multi-Function Display unit (MFD) sits on top and in the center of the instrument panel and contains seat belt status warnings, automatic air conditioning information and an 11cm LCD screen. The crisp, clear LCD screen offers excellent visibility – day or night. Displays include statistical driving information such as fuel economy, Eco evaluation, Active safety as well as a clock, outside temperature and self-maintenance checks. It also acts as the reversing camera display when reverse gear is selected. A steering wheel mounted switch for safety and convenience allows for quick and easy driver control of the MFD. Three switches allow scrolling through the various screens and also access to the setting screen that allows changes to the basic functions such as time and dates.

The New Generation Forester delivers a more spacious cabin with a level of soft touch interior luxury that belies its rugged performance. Up front, the ergonomically designed cockpit puts the driver in the perfect position for the Multi-Function Display and rear view reverse camera. The forward and quarter view field of vision is improved by shaping the A-pillar cross-sections so that they do not impede the forward view and create large blind spots. Improved location of the rear view side mirrors that are now 6% larger onto the door panel allowed the introduction of a new quarter window that greatly improves front quarter vision. At the same time rearward vision and blind spots in the side mirrors was significantly improved. The door mirror-operating switch has been moved to the door trim for ease of use and to minimise distraction from the road ahead.Raising the eye point by 34mm is particularly useful in improving all round vision.

Generous storage throughout includes molded door pockets with bottle holders and a rear retractable center armrest with integrated cup holders. Rear passengers can enjoy ample leg room, while the reclining rear seat function provides additional levels of comfort. Heater ducts in the rear are also standard across the range and there’s also a retractable center console on all models. The cargo area offers abundant space for all your cargo needs, plus the versatility to fold the rear seats flat or in 60/40 configuration should you need to move something sizeable. For ultimate comfort, Forester 2.5i-S, Forester 2.0XT Premium and Forester 2.0D-S boast leather1 seats coupled with heated front seats, an eight-way power adjustable seat for the driver, push button start and a powered rear gate for easy access to your cargo at the push of a button, no effort required – so you can save your energy for climbing those mountains or shopping up a storm.
